Purge

Purge

You know, I had this poem published in a poetry anthology many years ago and I have forgotten which anthology. Once a gibbet…
It was a writing exercise where the instructions were: take five minutes to describe your exact emotion. I was eight months pregnant, passing the time on a train from downtown LA to San Diego, for work. It was 2003. While I was trying to pinpoint my feelings, I was simultaneously listening to the lack of conversation around me, imagining what people were thinking and what they might sound like.

Drive-through metaphors
Half-breaths
Almost brilliant
Sounds like
Accelerated proclamations
Take-out soliloquies
Marble in the hole
 Thread the needle
Infinitesimal ~ Indivisible ~ Undeniable
  lust
         envy

              ambition
                  enshroud the tunnel
                  of light
in the fog it shrinks in focus
One pixel of today’s truth
  It’s
     Wonder
